Tangare (Carapa guianensis Aubl.) is a widely harvested timber species in the Colombian Pacific region; however, the effects of selective logging on its genetic diversity and structure remains poorly understood. We evaluated this relationship in 155 individuals from 11 localities in the departments of Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Cauca, and Nariño using nine microsatellite markers and a selective logging index (SLI) for each locality. Localities with low to intermediate logging intensity showed higher expected heterozygosity (He = 0.76) and effective number of alleles (Ne = 4.51) than those with high logging intensity (He = 0.65; Ne = 3.36). Morromico and El Choibá showed high inbreeding (F = 0.73), associated with demographic structures dominated by adult individuals and low recruitment. Genetic structure analysis identified two main genetic groups corresponding to northern and southern localities of the Pacific region, with mixed composition in intermediate localities. The SLI showed no linear relationship with genetic parameters, indicating that the observed genetic diversity cannot be attributed exclusively to logging intensity and may be associated with ecological and demographic factors. These results highlight the importance of integrating genetic and demographic information into the management and conservation of C. guianensis.
