Abstract (en):
Years ago, exotic species were imported freely and without any previous studies as to their adaptation or behavior by government agencies. This is the case of the American Red Crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) that was introduced to Valle del Cauca in 1985 as an experimental species. Here we present a preliminary evaluation of the dispersion of this species in Valle del Cauca, to determine which sorts of ecosystems it has colonized as a result of this introduction. The advance of this species through Colombian aquatic systems is worrisome because of its accelerated speed. At this time there is no evidence of direct impacts on native species or communities. However, the tunnels constructed by the red crayfish can cause damage to the flood protection dikes that have been constructed
on the banks of the Cauca River.

En años atrás, las especies importadas llegaban al país de forma descontrolada y sin realizar un estudio previo de adaptación y comportamiento por parte de los institutos de investigación del Estado. Tal es el caso del cangrejo rojo americano (Procambarus clarkii) que fue introducido al Valle del Cauca en 1985, en calidad de especie experimental. Se pretende realizar una evaluación preliminar de la dispersión de esta especie en el Valle del Cauca, para conocer a qué tipo de ecosistemas ha llegado a colonizar por efectos de la dispersión realizada por el hombre o como una ampliación del rango de distribución de la especie como tal. El avance en la dispersión
de esta especie es bastante preocupante, porque está ocurriendo de manera acelerada. Hasta el momento no se ha evidenciado un efecto directo sobre las especies y comunidades nativas. Sin embar go, las madrigueras que construye el cangrejo rojo pueden causar daños en los diques de contención que se han construido en las orillas del río Cauca.
