Abstract (en):

Dropteridaceae es una familia de distribución cosmopolita, cuenta con cerca de 50 géneros, de los cuales 30 son americanos, sin embargo su centro de diversidad se localiza en el oriente de Asia. Se caracteriza por tener plantas terrestres o rupícolas, muy raramente epífitas, monomórficas o dimórficas; los tallos son cortos y principalmente erectos, algunas veces son reptantes o escandentes; las hojas varían de 1 cm hasta 3 m de largo; los pecíolos son cercanos y no están articulados a la base, presentan dos o más haces vasculares; las láminas son enteras o lobadas, a, usualmente pinnadas; pueden ser glabras, cubiertas con pelos, y/o escamas; los ejes secundarios generalmente tienen un canal adaxial; la venación es libre, desde simple a furcado - pinnada, o, en algunos géneros es anastomosada. Los soros son abaxiales redondos a largamente lineares, y generalmente cubiertos por un indusio. La constancia en el número cromosómico es una de las características que mantiene la familia unida (n= 40 y 41), además de las esporas monoletes y esferoidales (Tryon & Tryon 1982, Kramer & Green 1990).
