Listado de avispas sociales (Vespidae: Polistinae) del departamento de Sucre, Colombia

Abstract (en):

A list of social wasps for the department of Sucre (Colombia) is presented. The study was carried out in three ecosystems: tropical dry forest relict, an agroecosystem and an urban area. Wasp sampling was conducted, from December 2010 to April 2011. Active searching was conducted for nests and individuals were captured with van Someren Rydon traps baited with fresh fish. Nine genera and 19 species of Polistinae were found. The greatest species richness occurred in the forest (15 sp.), followed by the agricultural area (9 sp.) and last the urban area (8 sp.). This list extends the number of social wasp species for the department of Sucre and the knowledge of the geographical distribution of these species in Colombia.
