Charles D. Michener es una de esas grandes personalidades que han marcado huella en diferentes disciplinas de la biología, desde la sistematica de los insectos y teoría de la sistemática biológica, hasta el estudio del comportamiento de las abejas y la evolución de la sociabilidad en himenópteros. Además, ha creado y fortalecido una de las colecciones de abejas más importantes del mundo en el museo Snow de la Universidad de Kansas, donde generaciones de biológos han encontrado abejas, librería y, sobretodo, el apoyo de no solo un gran especialista sino también un gran hombre.
