Still in our days, some Colombo-Venezuelan Orinoco River Basin ethnic groups share an holistic vision of universe that affects all aspects of the daily life, including their hunting practices. Linked to the sphere of the sacred, their perception of the environment and resources influences their food gathering activities and the behavior of local communities toward certain species and along with their accumulated empirical knowledge as related to a sustainable management of the fauna, itâs part of the group of values that is acquired by each person during the socialization process. The cultural transformations resulting from contact with non indigenous cultures have contributed with the rupture with that cultural legacy, that is expressed as a tendency toward secularization and skepticism about the traditional knowledge, and also the abandonment of the ancestral rules of culturization and intergenerational transmission of knowledge and lore. Although we donât seek to restore
traditional behaviors toward fauna, current efforts of the communities to rescue or to strengthen their own identities, through formal and informal education, itâs possible to include components of traditional information to propitiate greater empathy toward the conservation programs and of the management of this resource.

Aún en nuestros días, algunas etnias de la Orinoquia colombo-venezolana comparten una visión holística del universo que afecta todos los aspectos de la vida cotidiana, incluidas las prácticas cinegéticas. Vinculada a la esfera de lo sagrado, esa percepción del ambiente y de los recursos influye en los hábitos alimenticios o en la conducta de determinadas comunidades locales hacia ciertas especies y junto al conocimiento empírico acumulado referido al manejo sostenible de la fauna, forma parte del conjunto de valores que son adquiridos por cada persona a lo largo del proceso de socialización. Las transformaciones culturales derivadas de sus contactos con los no indígenas han contribuido a la ruptura con ese legado, expresada en una tendencia a la secularización y al cuestionamiento de los saberes tradicionales, pero también en el abandono de las pautas ancestrales de enculturación que favorecen su transmisión intergeneracional. Sin pretender con esto restituir conductas hacia la fauna más propias de la antigüedad, en el marco de los esfuerzos comunitarios de rescatar o fortalecer su propia identidad por la vía de la educación formal e informal se podría incluir componentes de esa información que propicien mayor empatía hacia los programas de conservación y de manejo de este recurso.
