Abstract (en):

Las melastomatáceas no han recibido ningún tratamiento que incluya las especies conocidas para Colombia o al menos para una parte de sus géneros. Los únicos compendios específicos son los de Uribe (1972, 1976 y 1983). Si bien el primero de estos trabajos incluye sólo las melastomatáceas de Cundinamarca, en el segundo y tercero se consignan aquellas especies que fueron ilustradas durante la Expedición Botánica de Mutis a la Nueva Granada. Especial mención merece también la serie de artículos del sacerdote antioqueño Lorenzo Uribe Uribe S.J. (por ejemplo en 1962, 1965 y 1969), serie publicada en Caldasia bajo el título de Sertula Florae Colombiae, y dedicada a la descripción de nuevas especies de melastomatáceas colombianas; también la serie de John J. Wurdack (v.g., 1954, 1965 ó 1971), llamada Certamen Melastomataceis, de ámbito neotropical, pero donde se describen o incluyen muchas especies colombianas (una lista de los trabajos de Wurdack ha sido compilada por Dorr & Eichhorn 1997).
